CAR cleaners at multi-storey HDB carparks can now offer more than a wipedown with plain water.
The Housing Board has relaxed rules governing the use of cleaning agents and car polish and these cleaners may now use non-corrosive detergents or waxing products that do not cause damage to the carpark's physical structure.
Said an HDB spokesman:"We have revised the scheme to allow the use of cleaning/polishing agents provided they are not corrosive to re-inforced concrete. In addition, we no longer specify the type of cloth to be used in providing the car washing services."
But, even with the relaxed rules, car washers still may not use water to rinse the vehicles they clean as the run-off will inconvenience other carpark users.
Sill, this will benefit businessman Jerry Tan. |
The 52-year-old managing director of product development company MMJ Pte Ltd, had proposed the idea of allowing rinse-free car shampoos to the HDB through the multi-agency Pro-Enterprise Panel last month.
He was able to convince HDB officials to life the ban on cleaning agents after he demonstrated that his product did not require rinsing, thus minimising any potential mess and runoffs.
The HDB had previously limited car washing to designated washing bays in multi-storey carparks, citing concerns of chemical runoffs weakening the concrete structures.
Mr Tan said he came up with t he idea because he saw how wasteful conventional washing methods were.
